Mr. Tom Clark,
Alien Coordinator,
Western Command,
Whitcomb Hotel ..
San Francisco, C lifornia
Dear Mr. Clark:
Referring to our letter of April 24, we have not received a reply
on the problem discussed therein. However, a communication from the Army
through Colonel Earl R. Bendetson, indicateg@ that this problem is still
not understood. To substantiate this point we quote from Col. Bendetsen's
letter of April 27:
"The suggestion contained therein was anticivated by Gen. De Witt
wien he caused to be organized the W.C.C.A.
"The last refBrred to organization has in it all of the social service
groups necessary for the administration of the problems arisins out of
the evacuation of the Japanese from Military Area Noe 1. As you know,
theye are engaged in this work, among others, the sevefal services
of the Social Security Board, a Federal Agency. "
This in itself is a-clear indication that the problem is mpre serious
than it appeared at first and that neither is the problem anticipated
nor is the solution to bee considered. :
We Geel that this is most urgent and hope that you and your associated
will investigate the need for liaison personnel. Such persons would
be valuable additdeous in interpretating the preblems of the evacuees
: to the W.C. C. Ae
Yours very truly,
Lincoln Kanai
