Two additional evacuation orders affecting Japanese residing in the Los Angeles 2


area were issued today (May 9) by the Army. An estimated 1,900 persons will be eva-


uated as a result of these orders. ;


Civilian Exclusion Order No. 55 affects approximately 900 persons living in


portions of Los Angeles County, officially described as:


"A11 that portion of the County of Los Angeles, State of


California, within the boundary beginning at the point of


intersection on California State Ilighway No. 2 (Angeles


Crest Highway) made by a line running due north from the


north end of Santa Anita Avenue; thence south on said


line to the north end of Santa Anita Avenue; thence sou-


therly on Santa Anita Avenue to Live Oak ivenue; thence J


easterly on Live Oak Avenue to Second Avenue; thonce 2


southerly on Second Avenue to the Rio Hondo Rivers; thence


southwesterly and following the Rio Hondo River to Garvey


Avenue; thence easterly on Garvey Avenue to the San Gabriel


River; thence southwesterly and following the San Gabriel


River to U. S. Highway No. 101 (Whittier Boulevard); thence


southeasterly on said Highway No. 101 to the point of inter-


section with the Los Angeles-Orenge County Jine; thence


northeasterly and following the Los Angeles-Orange County


line and the Los Angeles-San Bernardino County line to Mount


San Antonio; thence due west from Mount San Antonio on a


projected east west line to its intersection with California


State Highway No. 23 thence southerly on said Highway No. 2


to the point of beginning."

The Civil Control Station for this arca is established at the American Legion


Hall, Valencia Street and San Bernardino Road, Covina, Calif. A responsible member


of each family and each individual living alone, will report at the Civil Control

Station between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 pem., Sunday, May 10 and Monday, May ii.


Evacuees will be moved to the Pomona Assembly Center. Movement will begir

the City of Los Angeles (Indiana Street); thence northerly


and easterly and following said City limits to Ramona Blvd;


thence northeasterly on Ramona Boulevard to the point of


beginning."
